RE: Maxim the Greek

My meager studies on Maxim the Greek have taught me that he was a Greek who was requested by Russia in order to translate Greek into Slavonic, though Maxim did not know Slavonic. Avvakum listed Maxim in his defense for the Sign of the Cross, since Maxim taught the more ancient Old Believer form as being correct. Maxim also is a good example of keeping a full, untrimmed beard. Maxim was not allowed Holy Communion in Russia. Everyone seems to get at least a few things correct and I happen to agree that Maxim was correct to side with the non-possessors, though he suffered for it. I have seen some Old Believer images (paintings) of Maxim and they are without a halo. My two cents, for what it is worth.
