In this section the reader will find interesting information on the history of the Edinoverie. Unfortunately, in the coverage of this issue, until now, there is a confusion of concepts, in consequence of which not only the majority of orthodox laymen, but also many spiritual persons not only do not have a clear idea about the Edinoverie, but frequently are not completely informed about the existence of more than two centuries of this direction of church life.

Partially this lack of information can be explained by a deficiency in the historical publications on this theme. Below we propose a brief description of the history and the contemporary state of the Edinoverie, and under the headings of this division are contained fundamental work on the history of the Edinoverie, of the first Edinoverie bishop Simon Okhtensky, and a biography of the Edinoverie workers of the past.

EDINOVERIE. Regarding this, the first Edinoverie bishop Simon Okhtensky Shleeva stated, “Edinoverie, a simple concept, is unity in the faith of one with another. Seemingly a contradiction, it is a set of Russian Orthodox Church parishes, united with it on the basis of faith, but separated from it in rituals. Edinoverie is a division of Old Faith, allowed on the basis of unity in the faith in communion with the Russian church… Edinoverie is the Old Faith reconciled with the Russian and oecumenical church”.
