Correct me if I am mistaken, but I believe that Armenians are monophysites, and reject the Council of Chalcedon. They are included in the Oriental Orthodox family of churches. They are also members of the heretical WCC. I don't see how they are any better than Protestants. They are interesting only because of the traditions that they maintain, which I agree are very ancient. See also " http://oldbelievers.wetpaint.com/page/nonChalcedonians"

However I believe that the ancient traditions of the Armenian Church should be maintain so long as their heresies are not maintained. This is as to avoid throughing the baby out with the bath water so to speek(Like what many Protestants, Greeks, Nikonians, Papists like to do).

Though everything is poisoned and will slowly kill us, we should not touch what is unclean.
All thea air, all the water and all the food is polluted.
Stravation for the sake of Christ is a very reasonable option.
Dying for a right cause is not suicide, it is martyrdom.

This is a very good example of Old Believers who participate with ungodly Industrialism. The account of the Nikonite attrocities at Solovki Monstery is very accurate. Originally Old Believers were under threat of being burned alive and some prefered to protect themselves by starting the fire on their own, that is true too.

It is helpful to have various sources, but I am not so sure we should use a modern Russian language translation to establish doctrine or rules. I am still looking for a copy of the Old Slavonic. Eventually we might find one.

I thought this article was interesting because it explains how both of these men were saints. They had different approaches - Nil was against owning land, Joseph was for it - but neither was trying to impose their views on the other. Joseph was for persecuting heretics, Nil was in favor of a more lenient approach. I think it depends on the situation. I think St. Nil's views are more applicable today. There are a couple of words in the article that did not translate and I would like to find out the meaning: "mesyatseslove" and "neprotivopostavleniya".

No matter what the need of the Church, no earthly ordained clergy can be accepted without the approval of at least one unworldly right believing earthly consecrated bishop. No earthly consecrated bishop can be received without the approval of at least one unworldly right believing earthly consecrated bishop. Where is there even one unworldly right believing earthly consecrated bishop?

I was just reading about resistance to the census. A liberal group called ACORN, which is involved in voter registration, will be involved in the 2010 census. I think that Old Believers have resisted censuses based on I Chronicles 21, and they believed that being counted was tantamount to being enrolled in the books of the Antichrist. It also made them more easily subject to special taxes such as the beard tax. Anyways, I just wanted to add a quick note - this topic might deserve its own page.

RE: Resistance to the Census
By: ,
Aug 6 2009, 12:43 AM EDT
Greetings brother Nathan,
I have never talked with any Census worker ever in my life. During the 1990 and 2000 Census’ were both times when I did not always have a residence, so I never talked to any Census worker back then for that reason. So far I have not seen any Census worker for the next Census and will not go to them at all, but rather avoid them. I quit signing government papers years ago. I am participating less than ever with the antichrist world system. If pressed by a Census worker I might tell them it is against my religion and leave it at that. Fortunately I do not really exist. I do not even have my own Internet connection, so they would have a difficult time numbering me. I have actually thought a lot about this over the years and will post more of my thoughts here soon. I know of some Old Believers who live in a rather distant location and were visited by a Census worker doing work in advance. The worker said there was this mail box out at the highway and that they needed information about it. The response the Old Believer gave was that they do not do the Census, saying further that they did not believe in it. The worker walked away saying they would be back. So now the Old Believer has decided to simply remove the mail box so as not to attract anything further. There are other ways to get postal items. I believe it was the Post Office who had been given charge to keep track of people and where they go. In my many talks with the Old Believers at this location with the mail box I mentioned how the Postal System was not good , and they completely agree. Be encouraged by these things, knowing that there are some Old Believers who do in fact reject the idea of the Census. For centuries governments have had difficult times counting the Old Believers, now is no different. I am willing to die for what I believe in. Feel free to start a page, I have a photo and perhaps other things I would add to it.
Forgive, brat Ioann

I am now in St. Petersburg. Visited quite a few services, talked to our christians. I will be baptized in the city of Kaluga (God wiling) by fr. John (Ioann) Kurbatsky. I am returning to Toronto at the end of November. I will bring home all the needed things to organise a small place to pray. If anyone wishes to gather for prayer in Toronto (as John Alden told me... there are people who're interested in Archeodoxy), PM me or send an email.
Again, I belong to the Belorkinitsky hierarchy. Also I wanted to find out if there are buses that go to Gervais from Toronto.
Hope everyone had a grace-filled fasting.

Again, John, their way of life has nothing to do with anything. Unlike yourself they do not believe that these are the last days. Agafia is being catechised by fr. Andrew from Siberia as I said. She told fr. Andrew that it was her fathers wish to be accepted into an Old Rite Church that has priesthood.
The fact that you studied history yet say that accepting heretical baptisms is invalid proves you wrong. Tell me John, have you read comments of Holy Fathers on the Creed? Particulary on "I believe in one baptism"? That part of creed is percisely against those zealots, who re-baptised those who were already baptised in the name of the Trinity but outside of the Church.
These times have nothing to do with anything. Niconiate heresies are schismatic, meaning they fell away from the Church by persecuting the Holy Tradition. However, even the first Pomorians did not say that they believe in a different God. And if they don't, they are not 1st level heretics. Read what Fathers say about priesthood! They say it will never cease. Read how fathers comment "Thou art a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek".
As for whatever you say about antichrist, I simply beseech you to re-read carefully the works I mentioned for they all greatly contradict any form of priestless Old Believers and their idea of "spiritual antichrist".
However, you are right about the disagreement part. But I will no longer argue because it is not in my power to change your mind but only if Holy Spirit will intervene (that is if what I say is correct).

From St. Theodoret: "This is how to bless someone with your hand and make the sign of the cross over them. Hold three fingers, as equals, together, to represent the Trinity: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost. These are not three gods, but one God in Trinity. The names are separate, but the divinity one. The Father was never incarnate; the Son incarnate, but not created; the Holy Ghost neither incarnate nor created, but issued from the Godhead: three in a single divvinity. Divinity is one force and has one honor. They receive on obeisance from all creation, both angels and people. Thus the decree for these three fingers. You should hold the other two fingers slightly bent, not completely straight. This is because these represent the dual nature of Christ, divine and human. God in His divinity, and human in His incarnation, yet perfect in both. The upper finger represents divinity, and the lower humanity; this way salvation goes from the higher finger to the lower. So is the bending of the fingers interpreted, for the worship of Heaven comes down for our salvation. This is how you must cross yourselves and give a blessing, as the holy fathers have commanded." --"The Domostroi", available at: http://books.google.com/books?id=wyaaYcOneOwC&dq

We believe in one God the Father Almighty, Maker of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the only begotten, the firstborn of all creatures. Begotten of his Father before all worlds and not made. Very God of very God. Son of the nature of his Father. By whose hands the worlds were fashioned and everything was created. Who for us sons of men and for our salvation came down from heaven, and was incarnate by the Holy Ghost, and became son of man, and was conceived and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered and was crucified in the days of Pontius Pilate. And he was buried, and the third day rose again, as it is written, and ascended unto heaven, and sat down on the right hand of his Father. And furthermore, he is ready to come to judge the dead and the quick. And in one Holy Ghost, the Spirit of truth, who proceedeth from the Father, the life-giving Spirit. And in one holy Apostolick and Catholick Church. And we confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins, and the resurrection of our bodies, and the life for ever and ever. Amen.
Note: This is a translation from the Syriac by Arthur John Maclean, an Anglican priest, in 1893. It calls the Holy Ghost the "Spirit of Truth"

I was curious what peoples thoughts were re: the Old Orthodox Prayerbook put out by the folks in Erie? I am an Alaska Native Orthodox (Tlingit/Aleut/Athabaskan Creole) who has just about had it with the mainline Orthodox Churches in North America...the last OCA Bishop here in Alaska was a racist with questionable sexual orientations to boot...I often feel that Alaska Native Orthodox would see many similarities with the Old Belief and our own distinctly Native Orthodoxy...feeling a bit lost these days.
